The Fourteen Men of Haig, Tanya Brittain

Submitted by: Tanya B.

Original Song

I was inspired to write to this song after visiting Haig Colliery Mining Museum in 2015, shortly before it closed.

The story of the fourteen men who died as an explosion within the mine really touched me.

Their bodies were never recovered, they’re still down there among the rock and coal dust. The fourteen men of Haig lay where they fell at the base of number 3 shaft.
