The Night We All Cheered (Jonny Mott)

I wrote this ten minutes after the first clap for the NHS on 26/3/2020. I had indeed been overwhelmed by the gravity of it all and in tears, but the sight and sound of my community uniting was a great comfort. It was so touching the way it started nervously, (I think nobody was sure if anyone else would be doing it!) and then got louder and louder! The weekly clap eventually became divisive, but this first one was so pure of motive and truly heartwarming. I sang the song half an hour later to my best friends on a Zoom call and one of them recorded it. I’ll always remember their reaction and the feeling of unity from that special night when we all cheered together for the heroes of the NHS.
