At the beginning of the pandemic everything felt so chaotic. I took refuge in my favourite music – and was particularly drawn back to the types of music that really speak to my soul. I was instinctively searching for grounding and uplifting songs, and there’s nothing more so than gospel. ‘I’ll fly away’ was exactly the tonic I needed to stay positive, and singing this song to myself kept me going – reciting a musical affirmation that better times will come again.
