Buccas of Newlyn

Original Song

Tune by Stephen Kaniok, words by Alex Taylor.

Newlyn is just down the road from where I live in Penzance. Steve had written this tune, and I am very interested in Cornish history, so I researched the history of Newlyn fishing port The song’s words reflect this history including an incident in 1896 called the Newlyn. Riots; the type of fish caught, the work done by women and men, the precariousness of life, the sinking of the Arethusa in 1895 when four men were drowned, leaving families to mourn.
