Breathe in, breathe out - Amy Hopwood

I wrote this song with a group of strangers from all over the country (we were participants on the same course but had never met until my songwriting project started). Over a few online meetings we discussed our experiences of lockdown, shared feelings, ideas, words and phrases and then I drew it together into a song. We had a further session to develop harmonies and instrumental ideas around the basic melody I’d created, and then all recorded our parts remotely. Listening back to the song now, it feels heavily embedded in lockdown 1 (as opposed to the subsequent ones)- the shock of the whole situation; the way we adjusted; the positive impact on the environment and hopes for the future. Although it was only written in June 2020, it already feels like a historical record!
