Song for the Older Football Player by Lewes Old Birds (some of them)

It’s important to us because we are a group of older women who came together through football in later life, having never played much before, and we fell in love with the game and with the companionship and camaraderie involved. We wrote the song in the depths of lockdown when it felt like we might never get to play again and it was to remind us of why we play, what we love, and our belief that there was hope, there would be an end to it all , that one day we would be able to play football together again, but in the meantime, we could stay strong and play football in our heads. It makes us feel hopeful.
