Joan & Charles

This track is a celebration of the life of my mum and dad – Joan and Charles. My mum died in September 2020, she was 88 and had a very full life until the death of my dad seven years previously. After my father died her world became smaller and smaller as she withdrew into her memories. Mum spent 60 years living the house, in Doncaster, that she and dad shared and raised me and my brothers and sister. She never wanted to leave it, but towards the end of her life she couldn’t cope on her own, she spent some time in hospital and was then moved into a nursing home just before the first lockdown. She gave up and died there, alone, in the company of strangers. I made this track using my synthesiser, an electric guitar and some homemade percussive samples.
