Hope, sung by the Choir of Holy Trinity, Bledlow, in lockdown

Submitted by: Stephen B.

Original Song

I wrote Hope before lockdown based on a few lines an anonymous child with cancer wrote into a website, which I extended into lyrics of a song. However, it gained new relevance this year with its medical references and message of hope. So we recorded it as a choir as a thank you to the nearby Oxford researchers working on the vaccine for their huge contribution to humanity. It was played on Radio 5 Live's "Now that's what I call lockdown" series. To me it's a song that will alway be associated with lockdown.

The paths up the mountain are slippery,
And sometimes they’re hard to find:
That hazy peak looks further away
Than the valley you left behind.

The mountain leant down to the valley
And whispered of something beyond.
