This is a song about the increasing divisions within society brought about by polarisation of society. We felt the political discourse had become incredibly base, infected by Trump’s America and it’s Orwellian double-speak, where truth is still denounced as ‘Fake News’ and dog whistles encouraged to shape public opinion from it’s basest primeval level. Britain, as always, mirrored the US and this song was written and recorded within earshot of the sounds of Britain’s Black Lives Matter protests and the tearing down of statues that represented the colonial demagogues who shaped Britain’s recent past. With whitewash after whitewash, we felt ‘Deep Fake’ summed up Boris’s Britain just as well as Trump’s America.
